Rhysa Ferris
Rogue Mycologist • Grand Junction, CO
On June 3rd 1982 all the recognized planets in our solar system aligned. That day, as the world prepared for potential tidal abnormalities, Rhysa Ferris took her first breath.
Her colorful life took root on a large Colorado farm where her family grew hybrid seed corn in the belly of the Grand Valley. The freedom she enjoyed went blissfully unrecorded- childhood spent bathed in sun-drenched silence, raised by cool irrigation water and the shade of very old cottonwood trees.
As she ran barefoot through a world that never thought to stop her, the Ferris family powered a massive endeavor. Rhysa grew up watching machines slice through vegetation and soil, churning in the dust, thundering against the ground.
By the time she was 12 years old, her Dad and Grandparents were gone. Their deaths moved Rhysa to strike out into the world, leaving her shovel behind.
Finding her way was natural, and after some years spent learning big lessons, she was able to rent her own apartment downtown. Within that space, Rhysa built her first mushroom lab — running questionable experiments at the age of 16. Years went by and she developed a penchant for innovative mycology.
Rhysa has spent the last decade shouldering the weight of her purpose- growing mushrooms for her community and educating about the habits and pattern beauty she finds in her work. Her sense of direction and unflappable determination are testament to her powerhouse bloodline. Today, Rhysa holds her lantern out into the unknown as she walks on — ever adventuring.
